Because its good…
You cant really just say its the japanese equivilant of western animation because the differences are huge. The majority of western stuff ive seen is given over to comedy (crude or otherwise) while anime can tell a larger and more diverse range of genre’s and stories.
Anime has alot more tools at its disposal to tell the story and have an effect on the viewer, hence why so many people like it. hence why theres questions.
